Kim Vasa

Kim Vasa was appointed Neighbourhood Manager for Thames ward in May 2007.

Kim was born in the borough and went to Dagenham Park Community School (formerly Dagenham Priory) and still lives in the borough. She started working at Barking and Dagenham Council in 1990 as a Career Trainee and was then appointed as a Community Development Officer working in Longbridge Ward. She then relocated to Abbey Ward where she worked for 8 years and was the dedicated Community Development Officer working with the community, public and private sectors.

For 4 years Kim was involved on the Abbey, Gascoigne and Thames Neighbourhood Management pilot so brings a wealth of experience to this role. Over the years she has built strong links with residents, community groups, voluntary organisations, Police, schools, faith groups, black and ethnic minority groups, businesses and Councillors.

Kim's first priority since becoming Neighbourhood Manager has been to get the message out about Neighbourhood Management to residents in the ward. Kim is looking forward to meeting residents out and about in the ward and at the Sue Bramley Centre where the Neighbourhood Management team is based.

Kim knows the area well as she previously worked on the Thames Neighbourhood Management pilot scheme and also lived in the area for 2 years. Kim says:

"I was part of the Abbey, Gascoigne and Thames Neighbourhood Management pilot scheme which worked very well. I saw the benefits that Neighbourhood Management can bring. I am looking forward to seeing improvements in the area and ensuring that local residents get the best from the team."

Kim is looking forward to the changes that will occur through Neighbourhood Management. She says:

"Neighbourhood Management is about people in the community supporting each other. The scheme will open up lines of communication to deliver common goals and improve the quality of life in the ward."

One of the exciting changes to the ward is the Barking Riverside development. Kim says:

"Barking Riverside is a huge project which will bring new homes, shopping, better public transport and new community facilities including schools and health centres. Neighbourhood Management will play a key role in bringing together the existing and new communities in the Ward."
