Ford Motor Company opened in 1931. The first turf was cut by Edsel Ford, the son of Henry Ford. The site was the largest car plant in Britain and Europe at that time. The present site still stands on the original site.
Dagenham Breach experienced flooding in 1707 when a sea wall collapsed and left the area under water. 1,000 acres of marshland was flooded and this was repaired by Captain John Perry.
New Road was the main road from London to Colchester in the 1800s. The road was used to transport troops to the port of Tilbury during the Napoleonic wars.
