Did you know…

 

Bobby Moore lived at 43 Waverley Gardens and attended Westbury School. He joined West Ham football club in 1956. He played 108 games for England and 90 were as captain. He was named Footballer of the Year 1963-1964. He lifted the World Cup for England in 1966. He received an OBE in 1967. He died in 1993.

 

Chelsea and England footballer John Terry lived in Chelmer Crescent and went to Thames View Junior and Infant School. Terry is the current captain of the England national team and he made his debut in June 2003 against Serbia and Montenegro.

 

Creekmouth Village was built by Lawes Chemical Manure Company in the 1800s and consisted of 50 cottages. The village was very pretty and had its own school and chapel. Squibb Demolition Company is built on the old school grounds. The cottages were demolished in the 1950s.

 

Thames Flood Barrier was completed in 1983. It was intended to prevent over flowing of the River Roding and to protect the area from flooding. A terrible flood occurred in the area in 1953 and houses were ruined because the water rose to 3 or 4 feet.
