Dudley Moore, the award nominated actor, comedian and musician lived at 146 Baron Road. He moved there after his house in Monmouth Road was bombed during World War II. He attended Dagenham County High School (now Sydney Russell).

 

Valence House Valence House Museum is the only surviving of the 5 manor houses of Dagenham. It is sited in parkland and is partially surrounded by a moat. It takes its name from Agnes de Valence, a French woman with close connections to the English royal family who lived there in the 1200s.

 

The present building dates to the 1400s, but has been enlarged and extended many times since. In 1938 a museum for Dagenham was opened in 1 room in the building.

 

Terry Venables was born at 313 Valence Avenue on 6 January 1943. His football career started when he played for Chelsea in 1960. He went onto manage England and was the manager during the 1996 European Football Championship where England lost to Germany on penalties in the semi-final.
