Bill Murphy

Corporate Director of Resources

 

Bill joined from the London Borough of Southwark, where he was Director of Customer and Corporate Services. There, he was responsible for human resources, customer service and ICT, service modernisation, cultural change, accommodation, revenues and benefits and efficiency.

 

He also led on major service modernisation and development including the delivery of a customer service centre (call centre and 3 new one stop shops).

 

Prior to Southwark, Bill was Acting Director at the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) for local government. He has worked with a number of authorities, including councils in Scotland and Wales.

 

Bill is a post-graduate physicist with a background in organisational development, training and consultancy. A trained teacher, he worked as a further education lecturer before moving to Newham to head their training section where he played a major role in the cultural change programme, 'putting Newham on the map'.

 

Having been an elected member in a London Borough (1986-1990), his political, managerial and consultancy experience has taken him overseas, working with councillors in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Gaza, Malta, Belize and the Bahamas.
