Fresh from their silver medal at the London Youth Games, the team from Eastbury Comprehensive School met the athlete at their weekly practice.
Dami Bakare, 23, (pictured) is the British Olympic Association’s volleyball player of the year. He is training to represent Britain at the London Olympics in less than three months’ time.
Eastbury pupil and volleyball player Abbie Fox, 14, said: “We didn’t start up the team that long ago and having someone like Dami here is inspiring.”
Dami is a former London Youth Games competitor himself and still lives in the capital. He said: “I began playing volleyball at 17. Taking part in the Youth Games really helped me progress.
“I really enjoy it and am here to encourage other young people to take part in the youth games.”
After representing the borough last month, the Eastbury team are back in action for another round at the youth games in May.
