Barking and Dagenham is a New Kind of Council. Over the past four years we have gone through an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we can deliver real change with our community. This has seen us transform the council and the way we deliver adults care and support services to our residents.

We are putting the heart back into social work, supported by our strengths-based recovery focused model of intervention. We support our residents to live their lives with choice, autonomy and control over their care and life options.

We have a stable workforce with good retention rate, this is because we value our staff and are committed in investing in their learning and development as well as their wellbeing.  Our culture of learning combined with our commitment to career progression has seen successful internal promotions amongst our staff. This has also led to service expansion and opportunities for various vacant positions in our Mental health, Integrated service and Disabilities teams

We are looking for passionate, caring and enthusiastic people who want to work in teams where there is a robust and supportive management support, professional and CPD opportunities to make a difference to our residents across our communities. About Barking & Dagenham Toggle accordion

Previously home to the largest car manufacturing plant in Europe, the borough once famous for Fords will soon be famous for films, with London’s biggest film studios set to be built in Dagenham as part of a long-term vision to create 20,000 new jobs.

Ambitious plans for 50,000 new homes over the next 20 years include an iconic riverside development likened to Barcelona, the creation of a brand-new neighbourhood as part of a plan to tunnel the A13, which is one of the capital’s most vital road links, and the borough will soon be home to London’s first Youth Zone – a dedicated facility offering young people access to a range of activities to showcase their talents.

As the capital expands east, Transport for London has announced a new Overground station that will open in London’s only healthy new town – Barking Riverside - in 2021. The borough will also benefit from Crossrail development and is served by two underground lines and the C2C train service, which takes commuters from Barking to the Tower of London in under 20 minutes.

But it isn’t just the borough that is changing – the council is too.

We’ve redesigned ourselves to meet the financial challenge facing local government and unlock the potential of Barking and Dagenham.

This includes everything from creating our own housing and regeneration companies, providing affordable energy for residents and working with local people to help them find jobs and improve their skills.

And our significant transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed. We were named LGC’s Council of the Year in 2018 for our innovative approach but we know we are on a journey of change and our improvement is only just beginning.

We’re looking for creative people with a proven track record, who want to be part of this change. People who share our determination to improve the lives of our residents, and make sure that no one is left behind.

Barking and Dagenham is changing, will you be a part of the change?
