Business rate reductions and grants in response to COVID-19

The government announced a number of changes to business rates and reliefs scheme in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it is having on businesses.

Please be aware that we are currently experiencing an extremely high number of enquiries relating to these COVID-19 support measures, and we are endeavouring to respond to enquiries as soon as possible.

We are aware that these are difficult and uncertain times for businesses, and we appreciate your on-going patience.

Expanded Retail Rate Relief - 100%

The government announced that with effect from 1 April 2020, the level of retail rate relief for eligible businesses will increase from 50% to 100%.

Businesses that are eligible for retail relief has been expanded to include those that are within the leisure and hospitality sector.

This now covers venues used for the assembly of visiting members of the public such as but not limited to, museums, art galleries, nightclubs and sports clubs. Hotels and guesthouses are also included.

There is no RV limit to the businesses that qualify.

You do not need to apply for this relief. You will be automatically re-billed.

Nursery Discount - 100%

Childcare providers that are registered on the Ofsted Early Year Register that occupy a commercial property will qualify for 100% rate relief.

Grant funding for Small Business and Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grants

Please be advised that these grants are now closed by the government on 28 August 2020 and no further awards can be made.

Scam alert

We have been notified of a potential scam where scammers are contacting businesses which have received grants and telling them that they have been paid in error and must repay the grant immediately using the bank details provided by the scammer.

Businesses are also being approached by organisations offering to obtain a grant on their behalf for a fee.

Please be advised that this service is unnecessary as we will ensure that all businesses who are eligible for a grant receive this, with no fee for administration.
