Business rate reductions and grants in response to COVID-19

The government announced a number of changes to business rates and reliefs scheme in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it is having on businesses.

Please be aware that we are currently experiencing an extremely high number of enquiries relating to these COVID-19 support measures, and we are endeavouring to respond to enquiries as soon as possible.

Expanded Retail Rate Relief - 100% - 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021

At the budget on 3 March 2021, the Chancellor announced on-going support for businesses within the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure sectors.

All eligible businesses will receive the Extended Retail Relief of 100% for the first three months of the 2021/22 financial year and then 66% for the remainder of the year.

There is no RV limit for the businesses that are granted the relief but there are cash cap restrictions for each company (including all holding and subsidiary companies) in respect of how much relief they can receive.

The cap only applies for the billing period of 1 July 2021 to 31 March 2022 where businesses receive the 66% discount, the limits are:

  • Businesses required to close, a cash cap of £2 million applies.
  • Business permitted to remain open, a cash cap of £105,000 applies.

You do not need to apply for this relief. You will be automatically re-billed.

Nursery Discount - 100%

All eligible business will receive the Nursery Discount of 100% for the first three months of the 2021/22 financial year and then 66% for the remainder of the year.

There is no RV limit for the businesses that are granted the discount but there is a cash cap restriction for each company (including all holding and subsidiary companies) in respect of how much discount they can receive.

The cap only applies for the billing period of 1 July 2021 to 31 March 2022 where businesses receive the 66% discount, the limit is £105,000 across all of your businesses.

You do not need to apply for this relief. You will be automatically re-billed.

Scam alert

We have been notified of a potential scam where scammers are contacting businesses which have received grants and telling them that they have been paid in error and must repay the grant immediately using the bank details provided by the scammer.

Businesses are also being approached by organisations offering to obtain a grant on their behalf for a fee.

Please be advised that this service is unnecessary as we will ensure that all businesses who are eligible for a grant receive this, with no fee for administration.
