Adult weight management

Momenta, our adult weight management programme, runs for 13 weeks, and runs alongside our exercise on referral programme, so you have the best opportunity to reduce your BMI and achieve your weight loss goal.

Sessions take place once a week and last for one hour. Topics include healthy snacks, portion size and foods that fill you up for longer.


You must be a Barking and Dagenham resident, aged 18 and over, with a BMI of 30 and over.

About the programme

Momenta targets lifestyle changes and behaviours and how you can incorporate them into your everyday life. It takes you on a journey to help you understand that how, why and when you eat is just as important as what you eat. Essentially it puts you in charge of your weight and you will learn the 12 most important things you need to know about losing weight.

The programme is designed by nutritionists, psychologists and health and fitness experts. They have spent years researching why it is difficult to lose weight and keep the weight off.

By losing just 5% of your body weight you are at less risk of getting:

  • type 2 diabetes
  • heart disease
  • high blood pressure
  • high cholesterol
  • arthritis
  • some cancers

The programme does not:

  • put you on a diet
  • calorie count
  • use points systems
  • use liquid drink replacements
  • advocate excessive gym use
  • require skipping meals and being hungry
