Baby's Next Steps

Discover the Psychology of Babies

Baby’s Next Steps is a course, developed by the Community Educational Psychology Service, which combines adult discussion and reflection with different activities promoting parent-child interaction each week (singing, sensory and messy play activities). Parents have told us that they find the course really helpful for learning about their baby’s development, developing a stronger bond with their baby, learning about new activities they can do with their baby and developing a support network of other parents. They are welcome to attend all sessions starting on any week, or any single session.

The aim of this course is to intervene early to promote better long-term outcomes for children and families in Barking and Dagenham by:

Developing stronger attachments between parents and their babies
Providing opportunities for parents to reflect on their parenting experiences
Enabling parents to feel confident in supporting their baby’s learning and development
Providing opportunities for parents to get to know other parents and support each other
