The Barking and Dagenham Lottery Christmas Superdraw took place on Saturday 15 December, with eight winners taking home a host of fantastic prizes and helping to raise much needed funds for local groups in the process.

Prizes on offer included a PlayStation 4 to £250 worth of Amazon vouchers, with the winners coming from across Barking and Dagenham.

They included Dagenham residents Karen Mercieca and Glenis Turner, who won a one-year Everyone Active gym membership and an Everyone Active spa voucher respectively. Two £300 One4All shopping vouchers were also taken home by Louise Weavers and Joanna Tucker.

The prizes were kindly donated by RNB Builders and Greentherm, alongside donations from Everyone Active and the Broadway Theatre.

Even though the Christmas Superdraw is now over, the Barking and Lottery remains a great way to support local good causes, with 60p from every £1 ticket sold going to a charitable group in the borough.

Over £25,000 has already been raised for the 35 local good causes registered with the lottery, and there have been 824 prize winners to date.

"I would like to thank everybody that entered the Barking and Dagenham Lottery’s Christmas Superdraw, and to congratulate anyone who was lucky enough to win one of the great bonus prizes on offer"

Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, congratulated the weekend’s winners:

“I would like to thank everybody that entered the Barking and Dagenham Lottery’s Christmas Superdraw, and to congratulate anyone who was lucky enough to win one of the great bonus prizes on offer,” she said.

“The Barking and Dagenham Lottery really is a wonderful way of supporting local organisations, so I would like to encourage as many people as possible to sign up. With a chance to win up to £25,000 and help local charities in the process, there really are so many reasons to get involved.”

The various winners also reacted to the draw, with Karen Mercieca saying:

“I’m absolutely delighted to have won the voucher for a year’s gym membership from Everyone Active!

“I wasn’t expecting to win anything, but now I can’t wait to get down to the gym and start working out.

“I think I might wait until after Christmas though!”

Joanna Tucker was equally surprised:

“I forgot I even entered - what a brilliant surprise to hear I actually won! Right before Christmas too, I’m so pleased,” she said.

Glenis Turner is looking forward to using her prize, saying:

“I’m both pleased and surprised to have won the Everyone Active Spa voucher, and am looking forward to enjoying a relaxing spa day in the new year.”

“The Barking and Dagenham Lottery is a great concept, and it’s a pleasure to be able to give money to local good causes while also having the chance of winning prizes like this one!”

Louise Weavers was also full of praise for the Barking and Dagenham Lottery:

“Winning the £300 One4All voucher was a wonderful pre-Christmas surprise and I’m thrilled that my name was pulled out of the hat,” she said.

“My chosen good cause while playing the Barking and Dagenham Lottery has been the Friends of Monteagle Association, who fund a range of events and activities for children in the local community.

“It’s great to be able to help raise money for such a good cause every time I take part.”
