Barking and Dagenham Young Mayor set to raise funds for homelessness charity

Wesley Operaugo, the Young Mayor of Barking and Dagenham

The Barking and Dagenham Youth Forum and the borough’s Young Mayor have teamed up to raise money for a charity that supports homeless young people in London.

Wesley Operaugo, the Young Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, is taking part in a sponsored walk with the support of the Youth Forum, to raise money for the New Horizon Youth Centre – an organisation based in Euston that supports homeless people in Barking and Dagenham and across London into education, employment, training and accommodation.

The Young Mayor will participate in a sponsored walk on Thursday 9 August, that involves sleeping in an environment similar to that of a homeless young person – without any luxuries and only basic food available.

They are looking to raise a total of £1500 and anyone wishing to donate can do so at

Mr Operaugo is encouraging residents to support this good cause, saying:

“Homelessness is one of the most serious issues that we currently face in London and it can happen to anybody at any time.

“The New Horizon Youth Centre do some fantastic work to help people get their lives back on track, so it would be great if we could raise as much money as possible to assist them with their charitable endeavours.”
