Barking Learning Centre to be closed for general election preparations Barking Learning Centre (BLC) will be closed all day next week as the site will be used as the borough’s counting venue for the forthcoming general election.

Boxes containing completed ballot papers from across Barking and Dagenham will be delivered to the library, where a team will help tally up all the votes.

As a result, the BLC will be closed to the public all day on election day – Thursday 12 December.

Although Playaway Nursery will remain open and unaffected, people who use the BLC’s other facilities, such as the Homes and Money Hub or Citizens Advice Bureau, will find alternative arrangements have been put in place.

Residents wanting to visit the Homes and Money Hub and the Job Shop should visit Dagenham Library between 9am and 4pm, while Citizens Advice Bureau will only be available over the telephone between 9.30am and 4pm by calling 0208 507 5969.

The Bath Haus Spa, which is located inside the BLC, will also be closed on election day.

The BLC and all other services will return to normal operation the following day on Friday 13 December from 9am.
