Community orchard days coming to Barking and Dagenham

Orchard ProjectTags Adults , Residents

Did you know that there are a number of community orchards in Barking and Dagenham, and that you can help look after them?

The Orchard Project is an organisation that brings community orchards to cities and towns across the country. They’re heading to Central Park in Dagenham on Wednesday 27 March, to offer practical classes on how to care for fruit trees so that you can enjoy the fruit that they produce at harvest time.

You can join them and our park rangers from 11am to 2pm, when you can find out how to get involved with one of the borough’s orchards and learn some new skills in the process.

Snacks and drinks will be provided for attendees, and you can find out more information by contacting Ruth Taylor on 07875 993 513 or Ruth.Taylor@lbbd.gov.uk

"I would encourage our green fingered residents to pop down and learn something new"

Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, is hoping to see local residents getting involved:

“We have some fantastic orchards in the borough, and it would be great to see as many people as possible helping to maintain these and enjoying the fruit that they produce,” she said.

“The Orchard Project will have some great tips, so I would encourage our green fingered residents to pop down and learn something new.”
