Ground-breaking event marks new start for new homes
Barking and Dagenham witnessed another historic event on Thursday when construction began at Becontree Heath on a new £38.9m development.
Countryside, one of the UK’s leading home builders cut the first piece of turf on an exciting project that will see 170 new homes, a new replacement bus terminus and new retail space for a local pharmacy. This will provide the local area with a mix of housing, including 83 private homes for sale and 87 affordable homes, across a range of one, two and three-bedroom houses.
The project at Becontree Heath is set to be completed in September 2019 and will be the first development with a council-owned and run district heating network.
Becontree Heath is a pioneering project that forms part of our vision for the borough and I am delighted to see the work begin
Councillor Darren Rodwell, Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, commented: “Becontree Heath is a pioneering project that forms part of our vision for the borough and I am delighted to see the work begin.
“We are committed to providing homes with a range of tenures for our residents, including truly affordable rents that are the same as Council housing in the borough.
“I have no doubt that this scheme will benefit the area and look forward to seeing its completion.”
