Heroic council worker shows bravery to prevent drug deal

Barking Town Hall

A council worker went beyond the call of duty showing bravery to help police prevent a drug deal taking place outside Barking Town Hall.

Barking and Dagenham’s Council CCTV team were alerted to a suspicious male hovering outside the building and spotted a drug exchange taking place.

The Police Estates Team immediately left the CCTV offices to apprehend the male who had bought the drugs and was involved in a criminal act.

The officers were assisted by a council worker who saw police attempting to make the arrest and assisted in detaining the suspect.

The male was arrested for possession of cannabis, handling stolen goods and obstructing a drug search and was issued with a £90 Penalty Notice for Disorder for possession of cannabis.

Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “Once again our CCTV cameras have been crucial in helping us to identify a criminal act taking place and helping us apprehend the culprit.

“I hope this will serve as a major warning that drugs on our streets will not be tolerated in the borough and our cameras will pick out anyone who is intent on breaking the law.”
