Barking and Dagenham Council is offering care leavers who are undergraduates or graduates the opportunity to join an internship programme aimed at getting the voices of young carers heard.

The council is offering care leavers and residents the opportunity to join our 3-month Internship Programme as a Project Officer in our Children Services Department.

The role will include project work centred on ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard by senior leaders and staff. You will work with children in care and care leavers and contribute to programmes of training and support for our foster carers.

Applications are welcome from people of all backgrounds and disciplines. All we ask is that they have an undergraduate degree, have the right to work in the UK and are a resident or a Barking and Dagenham care leaver.

Gail Clark, Director of Workforce Change, Human Resources and Organisational Change, said: “I am extremely proud that we have been able to offer this exciting opportunity to our borough’s residents. It will enable them to acquire much needed skills and experience while getting paid for it.

“This is an exciting paid opportunity to develop professional skills and an understanding of local government by undertaking work which makes a difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families, further enhancing your future employment prospects.”

Interested residents will have the opportunity to find out more at an information session on Tuesday 19 April at 10am.

To find out more information, please email: Andrew.borwick-fox@lbbd.gov.uk and to register for the information session, interested applicants should email: Rabeya.ali@lbbd.gov.uk. Full joining instructions will be sent prior to the session.

To apply, residents can visit www.lbbd.gov.uk/council-jobs

Closing date for applications is Sunday 1 May 2022.
