Residents looking for work urged to take part in Job Shop ‘Registration Week’

Residents across Barking and Dagenham looking for work and training opportunities are being encouraged to take part in the Job Shop ‘Registration Week’ which takes place from Monday 16 to Friday 20 March. 

Staff and councillors who know or work with residents looking for work are being urged to direct them to the council’s job shops at Barking Learning Centre or Dagenham Library, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.00pm. Residents can walk in and do not have to book an appointment.

Those interested in work and training opportunities in the construction industry may wish to attend the Construction Team registration at the Adult College site on Ripple Road by calling 0208 227 2809 to book a slot.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “Our job shops have helped 980 residents into work in the past year, which is a 36 per cent increase on the same time last year and we are determined to get more people into work.

“Take advantage of the week-long event to register and get regular advice and support with writing CVs, interview skills, invitation to job fairs and most importantly training and being matched to the right jobs.”

To register, you must be over 16 years of age, have the right to work and live in in Barking and Dagenham. You will also need to bring with you a passport, birth certificate or visa if required; proof of address (and National Insurance number.
