Fifteen Barking and Dagenham residents helped into work during the lockdown

Fifteen Barking and Dagenham residents have been helped into work through the council’s job shops since the start of the lockdown. Although, face-to-face appointments are not currently available, the service is still supporting residents via email, telephone or Skype.

There are a number of jobs available from the job shops this week, including apprenticeship and a degree entry programme with the Met Police, care assistants, domiciliary care workers, carers, support workers, housekeeper/cleaners, warehouse operative and an Investigator for the Financial Ombudsman Service.

The Metropolitan Police is currently looking to recruit 11,000 people into apprenticeship positions up until 2025 and the job shops are helping them to achieve this.

Cllr Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “Despite the current pandemic and at a time when people are worried about their jobs, I am extremely pleased that our job shops are still open and providing a service to the borough’s residents.

“As a council, we are committed to helping as many of our residents access a range of training and employment opportunities so that they can unlock the potential and make the next career move. Getting in contact with our job shops is the very first step.”

Barking and Dagenham residents interested in registering with the service, will need to complete the online form and they will be contacted by a member of staff.

Alternatively, they can contact the shops by telephone: Dagenham Job Shop – 02087248877; Barking Job Shop – 02087248870 and the Adult College Job Shop (Construction Team) – 02082272809.
