One Borough Flags
Commissioned by the Council, led by the Sew London Project.
The project gives residents across the borough a chance to design a set of flags that will fly in Barking Town Centre to celebrate Barking and Dagenham - One Borough One Community.
The flags will be displayed ready for the Platinum Jubilee Weekender on 2- 5 June.
Themes
Six flags will be designed and made to represent six important celebrations in our year as a borough:
- LGBTQIA+ History Month
- Women’s Empowerment Month
- Queens Platinum Jubilee
- Summer of Festivals
- Black History Month
- Disability History Month (this includes the International Day of Disabled People)
Design Competition
- Competition is open to anyone that lives, goes to school or goes to a club in the borough
- Open to anyone aged between 8 to18 year old
- Choose one of the themes and submit one design or submit a set of six designs
- Please present entry on A4 portrait
- Use any medium, style or technique
- We will accept computer generated designs, painting, screen printing or drawing
- A judging panel representing the community will judge the competition
- The winning design for each theme will be digitalised, printed and made into a flag

- Deadline for entries is Friday 22 April
Competition Prizes
- 1st prize - £200 voucher for their school’s art department and £50 high street voucher for the winner
- 2nd prize - £150 voucher for their school’s art department and £30 high street voucher for the winner
- 3rd prize - £100 voucher for their school’s art department and £20 high street voucher for the winner
- £10 vouchers as spot prizes for family workshops
