2017 Summer of Festivals. One Borough; One Community
In 2015 we held a number of events across the borough to celebrate our 50th anniversary.

They were so well received, and enjoyed by approximately 100,000 people, that we made 2016 even bigger and better.

We plan to make 2017 the best year yet!

Council events:

The Bloodier Battle of Valence – a civil war re-enactment

Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May

Valence House and park

Prepare to re-live history as you watch a 17th century civil war re-enactment full of battles, demonstrations, and activities to be enjoyed by all the family.

Barking Folk Festival

Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June

Barking Town Square, Abbey Green and Abbey Ruins

A family-friendly festival celebrating folk music and dance from around the globe, complete with workshops, family fun and sensational street theatre. The evening concert in the beautiful setting of Abbey Ruins showcases the best names in folk music.

Eastbrookend Country Fair

Sunday 18 June

Eastbrookend Country Park

Escape to the Dagenham countryside for a day of family fun at the Eastbrookend Country Fair, with plenty of shows, entertainment and activities that celebrate the joys of nature and country living.

Armed Forces Day

Sunday 25 June

Eastbury Manor House

This free family fun day is a great opportunity to show support and gratitude for the contribution made by all those who have, and currently serve in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Steam and Cider Fair

Saturday 1 July

Old Dagenham Park

Enjoy traditional entertainment and attractions to reflect the borough’s rural and industrial heritage with steam engines, a classic car show, animals, arena acts and the popular Cider Stage featuring Country and Western favourites.

Battle of the Bands

Heats: Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 July

Semi-final: Wednesday 2 August

The Roundhouse pub

A competition for local bands to go head-to-head and battle it out to become winners for the 2017 title. Finalists will play on stage at The Roundhouse Music Festival in Central Park on Sunday 13 August.

One Borough Festival

Saturday 22 July

Parsloes Park

This community focused event is back and promises to be even bigger and better.
Step back in time with ‘Generation Jukebox’ as you enjoy the biggest chart topping hits and crazes from the 60s to current day.
Thrilling entertainment, dance, street theatre, family fun, and more; you name it we have something for all the family.

Elvis Fest

Sunday 23 July

Parsloes Park

Tribute concert to mark the 40th anniversary of the passing of ‘The King’ himself – Elvis Presley.
The line-up includes world class Elvis tribute acts through the decades as well as rock and roll bands guaranteed to entertain.
A great day out for all the family including food, drink, stalls, rides and attractions.

Roundhouse Music Festival

Sunday 13 August

Central Park

A retro 70s rock concert with a modern twist to celebrate the rich musical history of the borough’s Roundhouse pub which has played host to some of the world’s most famous rock bands.
Don’t miss our BIG headliner, unbelievable tribute acts and the final of the Roundhouse Battle of the Bands Competition.

Youth Parade

Sunday 17 September

Barking Park to Abbey Green

Our fourth annual youth parade to celebrate the borough’s inspirational young people and the positive contribution they make.
The parade culminates with a great family friendly event showcasing a number of clubs, groups and activities aimed at young people.
The event is also jammed packed with free family entertainment, workshops, rides and attractions.

Dagenham Village

DAGFEST is the first festival created by the Cultural Connectors and is an ambitious summer festival with a village feel.
In 2017 expect more outstanding comedy, dance, performances and a new music stage.

Barking Riverside

This year ThamesFest will benefit from a fantastic new partnership with Kinetika, joining their Silk River project celebrating the River Thames and River Hooghly in India.
This event will be part of the Totally Thames Festival and builds on the past two years of creating festival events at Barking Riverside.
