Extra care housing in Barking and Dagenham is provided through the Council and in partnership with Anchor Housing Association.
There are four extra care housing schemes in the borough; two in Dagenham, one in Barking and one in Marks Gate. They provide personal care, support, and arrange social activities.
The flats and bungalows are all self-contained and include:
There are also shared facilities at the schemes, which makes it easy to make new friends and enjoy different activities. These facilities might include:
Most schemes will have specially adapted bathroom facilities in the shared areas for people who need help with washing. If you are interested in moving to an extra care housing scheme, the first step is to have a social care needs assessment.
Your social care needs assessment will not cost anything, but there is a charge to live in extra care housing.
Part of your assessment will include a financial assessment, to see how much you can afford to pay. You may have to pay some or all of your costs, but this will be explained to you when you have your assessment.
