The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (‘Council’) is committed to ensuring that your personal information is use lawfully and appropriately.
The Council processes the data of residents receiving Direct Payments as part of its social care functions. This data is used not only for providing direct social care services but also for supporting residents in other ways.
In order for us to provide you with direct payments, we need to process information about you.
What personal information we will process for these purposes
The information we may collect about you could include, but is not limited to:

- Date of birth
- Address and post code
- Contact details (phone/mobile/email)
- NHS number
- NI number
- Other ID numbers
- Family details
- Lifestyle and social circumstances
- Case file information

- Your Representative’s details
- Your Personal Assistant’s (PA) details, including any identified Criminal Convictions
We may ask you for special category data (sensitive data), where required and appropriate. This could include, but is not limited to:

Lawful basis for processing your personal information:
We require a lawful reason to process your information. As such, the Council is relying on the following lawful basis:

Our legal basis for processing data about criminal convictions, criminal offences or related security measures is it is necessary to perform our public tasks.
Legal Gateway
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Recital 45, a Public Task requires a basis in law. As a social care provider, LBBD is obligated under the Care Act 2014, Section 18, to meet an individual’s care and support needs. To achieve this, it is necessary to process data relating to you. The Data Protection Act 2018 provides specific exemptions for processing Social Work Data under Schedule 3, Part 3. This means that the Council can share your data without seeking your prior consent.
