The council is a local authority providing a broad range of local government services, including Council Tax billing, social services, processing planning applications, waste collection etc.
The council is a registered data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number Z7517364.
The following information informs you about what we do with your information when you subscribe to the green garden waste collection service.
How we use your personal information
In order to provide you with the green garden waste collection service, the council has to process certain information from you. The processing of your information includes the collection, use, sharing (if appropriate), retention and destruction of your information.
The information we collect includes your name, address, contact number, email address and is necessary for the contract with you.
Your data will be used to:
- inform collection crews of your address in order to collect your green garden waste
- contact you if there are any issues or updates with your collection and/or service
- inform you of your collection schedule and how the service operates
- contact you prior to the next subscription year to re-apply
- manage corporate complaints both within and out of your subscription period
- prevention of fraud or misuse of permits
- coordinate with our bin replacement service
- reporting purposes such as service performance reviews
Online payments are processed using GOV.UK Pay, a secure online payment service, and as such your card details are not kept by the council. The GOV.UK Pay privacy notice explains how it processes information.
Lawful basis for processing your personal information
The council has to have a lawful reason to process your information. As such the council will process your application as follows:
Article 6, 1(b) Performance of a contract
Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract.
Protecting your personal information
The council endeavours to ensure that the services we provide comply with all data protection legislation, for example, the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018).
The council has appropriate security and controls in place to prevent data loss, for example, hacking attempts, however, we cannot guarantee that the personal information you submit will not be intercepted.
Sharing your personal information
The council will not share your information with third parties unless required to do so by law, or with your consent.
Retaining your personal information
The council will only keep your information for as long as is necessary, for the minimum amount of time, for the purpose it was collected, and in line with statutory requirements.
Personal data including names, addresses, telephone numbers and emails will be kept for a period of 72 months after the service ends.
