Who can vote in this election?
So long as they are registered to vote, people who can vote (the franchise) in this election are:
- British (or British Overseas Territory) Citizens residing in the United Kingdom
- Qualifying Commonwealth citizens
- Citizens of the Republic of Ireland
- European Union citizens
Please note: British citizens living overseas (who are not Members of the Armed Forces, Crown Servants, British Council employees or their spouse or civil partner) are not entitled to vote in this election.
Voting
There will be three ballot papers issued to you.
- Voting for the London Mayor (pink ballot paper) - you have one vote (X) for the candidate you wish to the Mayor of London. They are elected using the ‘first past the post system’.
- Voting for the Constituency London Assembly Member (yellow ballot paper) - you have one vote (X) for the candidate you wish to represent the City and East constituency. The Constituency Members are elected using the ‘first past the post system’.
- Voting for the London-wide Assembly Members (orange ballot paper) - you have one vote for the candidate you wish to represent the whole of London on the London Assembly. London-wide Assembly Members are elected using a form of proportional representation called the ‘Modified D’Hondt Formula’.
