Dr Who fans and those interested in the magic of special effects are in for a treat at the Broadway Barking on Saturday 25 November when Mat Irvine visit the theatre to share his knowledge of visuals effects and to introduce ‘live’ on stage, K9.

In two fascinating talks, Mat will share his secrets and show audiences some of the tricks of the trade. The first, The Story of BBC Visual Effects Department will enthral anyone who has ever thought ‘how do they do that?’ when watching great tv. The second, K9: The Complete & Utter History of a Mechanical Mutt is an absolutely brilliant opportunity to meet one of the most iconic tv stars of the 70s.

Having spent over 20 years in the BBC Visual Effects Department, Mat Irvine has a wealth of facts to be revealed and stories to be told. Mat has worked on Dr. Who, Robot Wars and on the classic Blake 7 amongst many other cult shows. Complete with many props and special effect tools and tricks, Mat’s talk, The Story of BBC Visual Effects Department is a must see for any fans of those shows and those interested in how special effects departments work.

K9, television's most popular robotic dog first appeared in Dr Who in 1977. And he is still around, making the occasional appearance and he’s heading to the Broadway Barking. Mat has been his sole operator since 1990 so has much to say and much to show about the mechanical mutt in his brilliant talk K9: The Complete & Utter History of a Mechanical Mutt.
