Who can apply to join the housing register?
You can make an application if you:
- Are 18 and over
- Have lived in the borough continuously for 3 years or more (by continuous we mean not holding a tenancy anywhere outside of the borough, this includes student accommodation/holiday accommodation or similar)
- Are a UK National (If you’re an EU, EA or Swiss national, please see the EEA citizen's eligibility for social housing or homelessness assistance (publishing.service.gov.uk)
and
- Fall into one of the reasonable preference categories set out in our Housing Allocation Policy
Making an application doesn’t mean you will be added to the housing register. Your application will be assessed and only if you meet the criteria, you will be registered.
We will process your application based on the information you provide, failure to provide all relevant documentation may result in your application being rejected.
Once you have joined the register you will need to bid for available properties. Properties are awarded to bidders with the ‘highest priority’ based on their needs. People who join the register after you but are higher priority will be allocated housing first. You can find out more information about how we assess and award relevant preferences.
