Barking estate agent fined again for breaching rules

An estate agent in Barking and Dagenham has been fined for the third time in as many years – this time for failing to publicise its’ letting fees and information about its’ redress scheme online.

AMBI Investments Ltd, trading as Primelodge Estates, was found in breach of section 83 (1) of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and fined £5,000 at a hearing of the first-tier tribunal of the General Regulatory Chamber on Friday, 19 July.

The Longbridge Road business had previously been fined £10,000 in 2017 for a similar breach, and in October last year it was penalised a further £7,000 for failing to apply for a private landlord licence for a property it managed.

It has been mandatory for private landlords in the borough to purchase a licence from the council since 2014 and in May this year the Government agreed to a further five-year borough wide scheme in Barking and Dagenham.

This estate agent has once again failed to meet the high standards expect for businesses to operate in our borough and demand for the people who live here. We will continue taking action again those who try to cut corners in pursuit of profit.

Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, said: “This estate agent has once again failed to meet the high standards expect for businesses to operate in our borough and demand for the people who live here.

“The rules are in place to protect residents and we will continue taking action again those who try to cut corners in pursuit of profit.”
