Council and BDCVS offer funding for St George’s Day events

Barking and Dagenham Council and BDCVS have come together to co-fund events and activities that bring communities together to celebrate this year’s St George’s Day.

The Barking and Dagenham Together for St George's Day Grant Programme, is part of a series of new funding opportunities from BDCVS made available to organisations in Barking and Dagenham to promote cohesion and equality.

Grants will be made available for organisations to deliver an event such as a tea party, lunch, street party, quiz night, etc. The event will need to encompass and brings residents together between Monday 15 and Tuesday 30 April 2019 to mark officially St George’s Day.

Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, is excited about the project: 

“We’re excited to be offering this great funding opportunity with the BDCVS, we want to empower our residents and community groups to host events that will bring the community closer together and will allow them celebrate St George’s Day together”

The funding will coincide with a St Georges Day celebration in Barking Town Square on 23 April, the event will commence at 12pm with a flag raising followed by sandwiches, scones and refreshments. The free event will also include a magician and free face-painting plus a visit from a friendly Town Square Dragon.

Residents and community groups can apply for funding.
