Long standing volunteer gets Mayor’s recognition

Ninety-year old volunteer, Evelyn Karstadt has been specially recognised by the Mayor of London and is set to be one of the stars on the Mayor’s Instagram page as an ‘amazing women’ during women’s empowerment month.



Evelyn will be part of an online gallery to celebrate incredible women Londoners who have been behind some of the greatest achievements and discoveries in the Capital.



Evelyn volunteers twice a week Barking Library and was awarded volunteer of the year by the council. She has been a volunteer for 25 years, the last 10 years with the library service.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “Evelyn is a truly amazing woman and this recognition from the Mayor of London is another feather in her cap.



“Volunteering is a good way to help others in your community – if you want to help others, gain new skills or gain work experience, then volunteering may be just right for you. Congratulations and well done to Evelyn.”



Hidden Credits celebrate extraordinary women who make a huge contribution to London, it is part of the Mayor of London’s #BehindEveryGreatCity campaign, marking 100 years since the first women won the right to vote in the UK and driving forward gender equality across the city.
