Earlier this week, Eastbury Primary School opened their brand-new reading hut which will provide pupils with a peaceful environment to read their favourite books.

 

Opened by Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Cabinet Member for Educational Attainment and School Improvement, the reading hut was requested by students so that they could have the opportunity to read books in a quiet place and take more in. 

 

To ensure that the build was a success, the school worked closely with pupils and parents and following months of fundraising, including bake sales, school fetes and special winter wonderland events, enough money was raised to start the build on the reading hut.

Lisa Shepherd, Co-Headteacher of Eastbury Primary School said: Many of our children don't actually have access to books at home, so it's a fantastic opportunity for them to be able to read in an exciting environment. 

Lots of the books have been donated by parents, so our parents are really supporting us in making sure our whole community has access to reading.” 

 

At the launch, Councillor Carpenter said: “I’m extremely proud of everyone at Eastbury Primary School who was involved in this project. 

 

“It’s great to see such enthusiasm from the students towards reading, and the way the whole community came together to fund the reading hut was truly inspiring. This goes to show that we can achieve great things when families and schools work together.”

 

The new hut will allow whole classes to go in there for lessons and features benches and beanbags as well as bookshelves filled a range of different books.
