After a very successful first neighbourhood funding round, which saw 13 local groups each receiving up to £10,000, Barking and Dagenham Council have now opened bids for the next pot of developer’s cash.

 

The council are calling for local community groups, who may have an idea for a project that will benefit residents within borough, to apply for grants of up to £10,000.

 

The Neighbourhood Fund is a proportion of the fee the council charges developers when they are building new developments, to make sure they benefit communities across the borough.

 

The money is usually used to fund local neighbourhood schemes, such as community projects and environmental improvements, with projects being assessed against the themes of the council’s Borough Manifesto.

It’s great that this funding is available yet again, for those who deliver projects and services, that benefit the people of Barking and Dagenham.

 

I am looking forward to seeing more groups benefit from this fund and seeing how they will make a positive difference in the borough.

Those who apply and get through to the next stage, will face a dragon’s den style process in front of a resident-led judging panel, where members of the community, have the final say if a project is awarded a grant.

 

Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, who is a big supporter of this scheme said “It’s great that this funding is available yet again, for those who deliver projects and services, that benefit the people of Barking and Dagenham.

The application window will remain open until 10pm on Sunday 22nd September and submissions can be made through the One Borough Voice website.
