Street Cleaning teams from Barking and Dagenham have been working hard to keep the borough’s bridges and surrounding areas clean and safe, by removing unsightly graffiti, and clearing litter and fly-tips.

The initiative is part of the team’s ongoing work to keep the borough clean, safe and looking it’s best.  

 A recent success includes work to clean and remove graffiti at Selina’s Railway bridge in Chadwell Heath. The Street Cleaning and Graffiti Teams worked together to clear graffiti and litter, making the bridge feel a lot cleaner and safer for residents to use.

 The Council are also working closely with partners to maintain standards on other bridges across the borough, which fall outside of its remit, and are managed by partner agencies. Our Street Cleansing and Enforcement teams will be working closely with the bridge owners to make sure cleansing and safety standards are maintained regularly. 

I’ve always been proud of our work to keep Barking and Dagenham clean, and I know keeping the borough’s bridges graffiti and litter-free is an important priority for residents.

 Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said, “I’ve always been proud of our work to keep Barking and Dagenham clean, and I know keeping the borough’s bridges graffiti and litter-free is an important priority for residents. Our teams have been working really hard to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the bridges which we manage, by removing graffiti, clearing litter and making sure they’re safe for residents. We’re also working with our partners, to ensure the upkeep of their bridges, which is part of our drive to continue to improve the cleanliness across the borough.

 "We can all do our bit for a cleaner Barking and Dagenham, so if residents see graffiti, litter or fly-tipping in and around any of our bridges, or in other parts of the borough, I would encourage them to please report it to us. If it’s on council land we’ll remove it, and if it’s on private land or in a location that’s managed by other agencies, we’ll work with those people to get it cleared.”
