A car owner from Dagenham has been fined over £700 for not disclosing the details of the driver who was caught littering from his car on the public highway.
On the 2 July 2020, Barking and Dagenham Council enforcement officers witnessed the driver of a blue Ford Fiesta dispose of a cigarette while driving down Movers Lane, Barking.
After noting down the vehicle registration, officers discovered that the car belonged to Mr Masoud Raufi. Mr Raufi of Sutton Gardens, Barking had 21 days to provide the details, however he failed to do so and was summoned to court.
The case was heard on Tuesday 16 November at Barkingside Magistrates Court and Mr Raufi pleaded guilty. As a result, he was ordered to pay a fine of £130, costs awarded to Barking and Dagenham Council of £587 and a Victim Surcharge of £34. This totalled £751.
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: This individual has failed to cooperate with us and has ultimately had to pay out a huge fine.”
“Whether it is fly-tipping, littering or just general antisocial behaviour, we don’t stand for it in Barking and Dagenham and if we catch you, we will enforce against you.”
