Local graduates invited to find out about a career with the council

Are you a resident of Barking and Dagenham, a graduate or due to graduate by July 2022?

If yes, have you ever thought of a career working for your local council?

We are offering local people and employees the opportunity to join our graduate scheme as a National Management Trainee to lead critical projects and services that make a real difference to the lives of our residents.

The National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) is a two-year fast-track programme for graduates who want to make a difference in communities while launching their management career in the public sector. The programme includes a fully funded postgraduate qualification in leadership and management and a starting salary of £27,978.

The council has been running the programme for 12 years and this is the second year we have been able to create a specific route for our own residents to benefit from it. We welcome residents and employees who are passionate about making our borough a better place to live to apply to the NGDP via our local route.

Councillor Dominic Twomey, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Core Services, said: “We are looking for the next generation of managers to lead critical projects and services that make a real difference to the lives of our residents.

“We have been running this programme for 12 years and I am glad to say that this is the second year we have been able to create a specific route for our own residents to benefit from it. I hope to see as many of you at the information day event.”

Candidates from all backgrounds and disciplines are welcome. They must have achieved a 2:2 or above by July 2022, have the right to work in the UK and be a local resident or an existing council employee to qualify for our local route.

We have three vacancies for a September 2022 start date - one from the national pool of graduates and two from a local route. Residents can apply either through our local programme or through the NGDP’s national route.
