National Apprenticeship Week 2022

Council celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2022

Residents and local businesses will have the chance to hear about the benefits and opportunities of apprenticeships next week, as part of a series of free events.

Barking and Dagenham Council is hosting three events during the 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place across England between 7-13 February.

On Wednesday, 9 February between 10-11am, businesses will be able to join an online video session to discover how apprenticeships can help them, including how to access the apprenticeship levy to upskill skill and find out what other funding is available.

The next day, at 10am on Thursday, 10 February an hour-long online session will give residents the chance to learn more about the council’s apprenticeship scheme, what vacancies available, how to apply for them, and what other support is available.

Also taking place on Thursday, between 11am-1pm, residents can attend a walk-in event at Barking Learning Centre to speak to training providers and organisations such as the Barking and Dagenham College, Adult College, Met Police, and the council about apprenticeship opportunities and get more information about the schemes.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “We’re proud to once again be supporting this national event and we remain committed to helping people into employment through as many career paths as possible.

“If any residents are considering a change of career, I urge them to consider apprenticeships – you’re never too old to learn.”

Last year one of the council’s graduate apprentices, Cintia Jankoczi, was awarded the 2021 Public Services People Managers Association (PPMA) Apprentice of the Year Award for helping over 1,300 people access construction-related employment support and training,

Local businesses interested in joining the online session can register their interest by emailing businessforum@lbbd.gov.uk

Residents who want to join the online session on Thursday, 10 February should contact vacancies@lbbd.gov.uk

The walk-in event is taking place in Conference Room 2 at Barking Learning Centre on Thursday, 10 February.
