Council flies flag for 76th Pakistan Independence Day

Barking and Dagenham Council marked Pakistan Independence Day by raising the Pakistan flag on Friday 12 August.

The flag was raised outside Barking Town Hall and flown over the weekend.

The 14 August commemorates the day that Pakistan achieved its independence and was declared a sovereign nation.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills & Aspiration, said: “We are really proud of our Pakistani community, as we are of every community in our diverse borough, and today was a chance to celebrate them with our flag raising outside the Town Hall.

“Our flag-raising events are driven by our residents, so if anyone would like to mark a special day, I strongly encourage them to do so. We have amazing diversity in our borough and all our communities deserve to be celebrated.”
