Barking and Dagenham Council thrilled to announce its Summer of Festivals Weekender featuring the historic Coronation Day

Barking and Dagenham Council is delighted to announce its Summer of Festivals Weekender, which includes the highly anticipated Coronation Day event in honour of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. This historic occasion will take place on Saturday 6 May followed by the much-loved One Borough Festival on Sunday 7 May at Valence Park, Dagenham, on the grounds of the iconic Valence House.

Following the success of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee event last year, the council is proud to host this monumental occasion that will bring the community together in true British fashion. The Coronation Day event will begin with the official Coronation ceremony broadcast on a big screen, setting the perfect celebratory atmosphere for the day ahead.

An exceptional line-up of entertainment is planned for the event, including live music, dance performances, and family fun activities. Attendees will also have the opportunity to indulge in a range of food and drink stalls, offering delicious treats and refreshments. Furthermore, a special invite-only afternoon tea will be organised for some of the borough’s care home residents, so they can soak up the atmosphere.

To close an epic weekend of non-stop entertainment, the highly anticipated One Borough Festival is back on Sunday 7 May! And this year it will bring together the best of the council's other top-rated festivals, such as the Steam and Cider Fair and Roundhouse Music Festival.

Attendees can enjoy a jaw-dropping display of classic cars, all while enjoying the electrifying sounds of tribute acts, rock ‘n’ roll entertainment and so much family fun. The best part? Both days are completely free to attend!

Cllr Darren Rodwell, Leader of the council, expressed his excitement for the coronation and the upcoming event, saying: "I know the vast majority of residents will want to have the chance to wish His Majesty well and to mark this historic occasion, so we're thrilled to be supporting the community to come together and celebrate the Coronation through our Summer of Festivals weekender.”
