Council invites interested residents to apply for a role on its Ethics and Standards body

Barking and Dagenham Council is looking to recruit an independent, fair-minded person to give a reasonable and impartial view when a complaint is made about an elected or co-opted Members of the Council.

The Localism Act 2011 requires the council to put procedures in place for handling complaints about Members' conduct and procedures need the involvement of a person independent of the council.

The individual may be called upon to attend meetings and give a view when a complaint is received in order to consider whether action should be taken, and also to be present and give their views during any formal hearing that may take place if it is decided to investigate a complaint.

Any resident interested in applying for the position should email Kelly.finn@lbbd.gov.uk or write to The Monitoring Officer, The Legal Practice, Barking Town Hall, Town Hall Square, Barking, IG11 7LU.

A personal statement and CV will be required initially, however shortlisted applicants may expect to be interviewed by senior council officers. If an applicant is successful, they will need to be approved by Councillors.

The successful applicant will be given full training and a modest allowance will be paid.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 12 July.
