Local business butchers their bank balance with fly-tipping fine

A Dagenham butchers has been fined £400 after it was caught fly-tipping by a Barking and Dagenham Council CCTV camera.

The footage shows the individual dumping several green bags down a service road off the Heathway.

A council officer visited a few butchers in the local area and was quickly tipped off as to where the individual was from.

After visiting the identified butchers, the manager was interviewed under caution and said that the individual no longer worked there and apologised for the ex-employee’s error of judgment.

The business has been issued with a £400 fine for fly-tipping as well as being served with a further Fixed Penalty Notice of £300 for failing to produce their Waste Carriers Licence.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “I’m really proud of how our CCTV team and Environmental Enforcement Officers worked together on this.

“We expect businesses operating in the borough to be disposing of their waste correctly – that certainly does not mean fly-tipping! I hope this business has learnt its lesson and this sends a warning to other businesses.”

If the business fails to pay the fines, it will be taken to court for prosecution.
