A recent focused visit by OFSTED of Barking and Dagenham’s Council’s arrangements for children in need or subject to a protection plan, has highlighted significant improvements and dedication to supporting vulnerable children.
The inspection report outlines a number of strengths including sustained and strengthened practice in many areas, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and high standards. The report also highlights that effective decisions are made, ensuring children receive the right support at the right time, which is crucial for their wellbeing and development.
The report also points to increased management capacity, and stronger supervision, enhancing the quality of care provided. In addition, it highlights skilled and sensitive support for disabled children, ensuring their unique needs are met with care and expertise, while ensuring that services are continually evaluated and improved.
The report notes that Barking and Dagenham has significant population growth and mobility, with high demand for services, and that the council has prioritised support for vulnerable children.
The council will focus on improvements recommended by the OFSTED inspection including enhancing the effectiveness of direct work, improving contingency planning, and ensuring more consistent use of tools to inform decisions.
