Local businesses came together at the first Dagenham Construction Industry Forum to connect, support and champion local entrepreneurs and small businesses. 

The event, hosted by not-for-profit housing association Peabody and housebuilder Hill in partnership with Barking and Dagenham Council, gave guests the chance to hear about the Dagenham Green project, learn about opportunities available to construction businesses on site, and find out what wider support is on offer for local firms. Attendees also took part in an open roundtable discussion to share their experiences, challenges, and ideas. 

The first phase of the long-term development, which is now under construction, will deliver more than 900 new homes, over 300 of which will be affordable, along with new green spaces, play areas, and community facilities.  

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration at Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “This is exactly the kind of initiative we want to see - a space where businesses can talk openly, get support, and build the connections they need to grow.

"We know how tough times are right now, so making sure opportunities stay local really matters.”  

Cecile Bouchet, Economic Inclusion Lead for Peabody, said: “Dagenham has so much business talent and energy, and we want to make sure Dagenham Green Phase 1 helps to unlock opportunities for local people and businesses both on this project and building capacity for future.

“This new forum is just the start - it’s about listening, connecting, and working together.”

Food was provided by local caterer Nomie’s Kitchen, with leftover meals donated to a local care home and homeless charity Helping the Hungry.
