MARAC (for professionals)

The MARAC is a multi-agency risk assessment conference which is held weekly and focuses on supporting victims/survivors at high risk of murder or serious harm.

An Independent Gender Violence Advocate (IGVA) represents the victim/survivor’s voice, with attendance from partnership agencies including police, children’s social services, probation, adult social care, housing, mental health, substance misuse, health visitors, with other ad hoc services invited as and when.

Information is shared in order to create an individualise victim focused safety plan, with wider support for children and perpetrators considered.

Whilst the risk of losing life or limb over-rides the need for consent, it is always easier to engage a victim/survivor if consent was obtained.
