February 2026 marks the 22nd UK LGBT+ History Month, a national celebration that began in 2005. Each year shines a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of LGBT+ people across history and across every area of life.

Theme: Science and Innovation

This year’s theme, “Science and Innovation”, celebrates the LGBT+ pioneers whose ideas and discoveries shape the world we live in today. From breakthrough medical research to transformative technology and climate-saving innovations, their work impacts our daily lives in countless ways. Yet, despite these contributions, many of these scientists and innovators remain unknown or uncelebrated.

LGBT+ History Month 2026 aims to change that by raising awareness of the incredible individuals behind these advancements, both past and present, and highlighting why diverse teams are essential for creating solutions that benefit everyone.

As we celebrate, it’s also important to recognise the challenges LGBT+ people have faced within scientific and medical fields such as the historic pathologisation and medicalisation of LGBT+ identities and acknowledge the ongoing work still needed to ensure equality, inclusion, and respect.

Events

You’ll find a range of activities and events taking place throughout the month, both local in‑person opportunities and online sessions. These events are designed to raise visibility, celebrate LGBT+ communities, and champion equality and diversity. We encourage everyone to get involved and show support for LGBT+ rights.
