Cllr Princess Bright has taken over from out-going Mayor, Cllr Moin Quadri, at the annual ceremonial event held on Friday 16 May at an Extraordinary Ceremonial Council.

Cllr Bright has been a resident of Barking and Dagenham since 2009, with strong family and community connections in the borough. Serving as a Councillor since 2018 representing Eastbrook and Rush Green Ward.

Since becoming a Councillor, Cllr Bright has served on the Board Member of Agile Africa, an NGO which aims to empower young people with tech skills and was previously a Governor at Robert Clack School.

Councillor Bright believes in the power of community, the importance of tradition, and the need to inspire pride in the place we all call home. She would like to use her Mayoral year to be seen as an ambassador for the borough - a voice that celebrates its history, promotes its achievements, and uplifts its people.

Councillor Bright is a dedicated fundraiser for charitable causes and will support Ab Phab Youth Club and Crohn’s & Colitis UK as her chosen charities during her Mayoral year. She is committed to amplifying Ab Phab Youth Club’s work to ensure the borough’s young people feel supported and inspired to reach their full potential. Supporting Crohn’s & Colitis UK is a cause close to Councillor Bright’s heart. Having been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2011, she knows first-hand the challenges faced by those living with this condition. Through this partnership, Councillor Bright aims to raise awareness, advocate for better support, and bring hope to those affected.

During her Mayoral term, Cllr Bright's mother, Cllr Sade Bright, will support her as Mayoress. She has also selected her fiancé, Michael Olaifa, to accompany her as Consort.
