Childcare sufficiency assessment

The Childcare Act 2006 places a duty on local authorities in England to:

  • improve outcomes for children and young people;
  • secure sufficient childcare so that parents and carers can work.

The childcare sufficiency assessment identifies gaps in the childcare market, so that we can plan how to support the market to ensure sufficient childcare provision.
