Private sector landlords are required from 1 October 2015 to have a least one smoke alarm installed on every storey of their properties and to install a carbon monoxide alarm in any room containing a solid fuel burning appliance. These requirements are from The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015.

Barking and Dagenham landlords are eligible for up to two free smoke alarms for each property licensed in the borough.
