A young 18-year old mother (who was 17 at the time) has been able to get her life on back on track with a place at college and an early years provision for her young child and has stayed out of debt thanks to help from a council service.

This positive outcome has been achieved thanks to a close partnership between the council run nursery – Abbey Nursery and the local college.

The nursery’s innovative approach to being proactive and building a good relationship with parents also played a pivotal role in this success.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “Whether struggling with rent payments, looking to gain new skills needed for work or just want help and advice on staying debt free, you can pop in to any of our libraries or job shops.

“I am extremely thankful to all the professionals who have made this possible as I hear that mum loves her childcare course, is also doing English and maths and has been offered the opportunity to do her placement at the nursery.”
