COVID-19 Testing Site sign by the road

Another Covid test site opens in Barking and Dagenham

A new test site will open on Saturday 16 January today to make it easier for residents of Barking and Dagenham with Covid-19 symptoms to get tested for coronavirus, nearer to their home.

The new test site, based at Curzon Community Centre car park, Bastable Avenue, Barking, IG11 0LG, will be open between 2 to 5pm (Saturday 16 January), 10am to 5pm (Sunday 17 January), and then from Monday 18 January it will be open 8am to 8pm every day, seven days a week.

Residents who have symptoms should get a test as soon as possible, and in addition to the Curzon Community Centre test site, they can also walk-in for a test at the following local sites:

  • Mayesbrook Park Car Park, Lodge Avenue, Dagenham RM8 2JR (opposite Illchester Road)
  • Chadwell Heath Community Centre, High Road, Chadwell Heath RM6 6AS

Residents can find out more including the latest opening times for the test sites.

If residents don’t have symptoms but still need to go out for essential reasons – for example if they can’t work from home or need to get food shopping – they can get tested at one of our two lateral flow test sites which can give a test result within an hour:

  • Gascoigne Children’s Centre, 140 St Ann’s, Barking IG11 7AD (walk-in and booking available)
  • Becontree Leisure Centre, Althorne Way, Dagenham RM10 7FH (walk-in only)

Both sites are currently open from 10am to 7pm every day.

Councillor Maureen Worby, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health Integration said: “Around one in three people with Covid don’t have symptoms, but can still pass it on, which is why it’s extremely important that we all follow the rules set by the government, and act like we have coronavirus, even if we don't have symptoms.

“We now have even more testing sites around the borough and I’m encouraging residents to get tested even if they’re not showing symptoms - this will help us find positive cases and quickly stop the spread.

“We all should get into the habit of getting tested regularly, to help control the spread, especially as you might have it without knowing you do. And remember, if you do have symptoms you must stay home and away from anyone you don’t live with, until you get a negative result.”
