Family Hubs launch Jan 2024

East London council launches its first three Family Hubs

Children aged 0 to 19 and their families and those with special education needs across Barking and Dagenham will be able to benefit from a range of support services with the opening of three new family hubs.

The new family hubs were launched on Thursday, January 18, at the Dagenham Learning Centre. Families and community members came together to commemorate the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a day filled with activities.

Families actively participated in arts and crafts activities, creating a vibrant atmosphere, with children especially enjoying the face painting!

Councillor Jane Jones, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care & Disabilities, said: "We are overwhelmed by the incredible response to the opening of Barking and Dagenham's Family Hubs. The community's participation reinforced the need for such a valuable resource. The Family Hubs will provide the crucial support our families deserve."

The Family Hubs, located in the Barking Learning Centre, Dagenham Library, and Marks Gate Community Centre, aim to serve as pillars of support for families with children aged 0 -19. They are staffed by knowledgeable Family Navigators and offer assistance in various areas, including meeting the changing needs of children, building positive family routines, finding local and specialist support, access to parenting programs, and specialised support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
